Burn Baby Burn

I believe in the four ancient elements of earth, air, fire and water. I have covered water and earth...now it's time to cover fire. Fire represents your musculoskeletal system aka your muscles. The best way to work and strengthen your muscles is by doing strength training/resistance training.

Fire is red and it is hot! The muscles in your body are red and when they are worked produce heat. What is strength training? Strength training is defined as the use of resistance to contract the muscles in order to increase their size, endurance and strength. Resistance can be your own body weight or such things as dumbbells, tubing, machines, and kettle bells, etc. Benefits of doing strength training include but are not limited to increasing lean body mass (muscles), increasing bone density, increasing your energy needs (metabolism) and assisting with body fat loss, reducing risk of injuries, and improving muscular balance and endurance.

There are many benefits to adding strength training to your wellness/fitness routine. The beauty with doing strength training is that not only do you have options with what kind of weight you would like to use, you can choose what you would like to focus on. Would you want to build muscle? Do you want to work muscular endurance? Or do you just simply want to be stronger?

For instance, if you want to focus on building muscle (hypertrophy) you would want to do 6-12 reps of each exercise. You want to do 2-5 sets and rest for about 60 seconds in between each set. If endurance is your focus, then do 12 or more reps per exercise. You can do 2-3 sets and rest from 30-90 seconds in between sets. By doing muscular strength work, you would want to do 1-6 reps per exercise and rest for 2-5 minutes between sets. You also want to do 2-5 sets per exercise. Regardless of which strength training you want to focus on, be sure to work out your whole body. Another quick tip is to focus on those exercises that work big muscles groups (i.e. legs, chest, back) first and then do work your smaller muscle groups.

Working on your muscles will help your body burn more calories, move better, and improve body composition. So why not work on getting that inner fire going and do some strength training!!

P.S.-I can work with you to create your own personalizes strength training program. Please click on the Contact link above and reach out to me :)
